On April 12-13, 2015, FLVS once again had the privilege of going on a behind-the-scenes tour at Kennedy Space Center and sharing the experience with our students.
During the virtual field trip, followers of our FLVS Twitter account were able to tune in live for video streaming made possible with the new social app, Periscope.
While anyone can watch streams broadcasted via Twitter on their desktop or mobile device, users with the mobile Periscope app were also able to post questions in real time. We were honored to have viewers from around the world engage with us throughout the event! Continue reading

Join the FLVS social media team as we tour Kennedy Space Center before the anticipated SpaceX launch on April 13th.
FLVS has been invited to attend and post live updates during the SpaceX launch currently scheduled for 4:33pm ET at Kennedy Space Center on Monday, April 13, 2015 (as of the time of this post).
This two-day NASA event will be held on Sunday and Monday and YOU are invited to join us on social media!

The day was full of exciting news and details about NASA’s 2016 budget, captivating science, technology, engineering, and math enthusiasts across the nation.
The SpaceX Dragon, Orion spacecraft, and Boeing CST-100 were on display behind Bolden as he addressed plans for future missions beyond low Earth orbit, with destinations including Mars and Europa. Bolden also described the excitement surrounding student involvement in NASA innovation and STEM research.

Are you taking or planning to take Outdoor Education at FLVS? Enter to win a Florida Lifetime Sportsman’s License!
In partnership with Fresh Air Inc., Future Hunting in Florida Inc., and the Florida Wildlife Commission, FLVS is conducting a contest with former, current, or future Outdoor Education students and those with an interest in fishing and hunting.
Students are invited to create a 2-3 minute video describing the benefits they have gained (or expect to gain) by taking the FLVS Outdoor Education course. Videos can be uploaded to YouTube and submitted here.

From the simple to the spectacular, we heard from all kinds of students during our “Go Ahead: Succeed” contest. Using Instagram, Twitter, and Facebook, students submitted photos of themselves and told us how they have succeeded with FLVS.
Thank you to all of our amazing students who entered, from athletes to artists to world travelers to bookworms. We loved hearing your stories. At the end of August, Florida Virtual School kicked off the 2013 student photo contest on social media. Running through September 22, the photo contest helps to engage students, encourage creativity, and create a buzz around social media as many of us dive into a new school year.
To participate in the contest, students may submit a photo related to the theme “Show us where you FLVS” via Instagram, Twitter, or Facebook. Students, friends, and family members can vote for their favorites and share photos with their own social networks. Kids can see when, where, and how other students work on their courses. By seeing the cool spaces and fun places where students study, it is plainly apparent that our FLVS students are just as diverse as the locations where they work. Continue reading
