What It’s Like Being a Student at FLVS Full Time

By on March 30th, 2018

Thinking about the past five and a half years of being a student at FLVS Full Time, it would be impossible to count all the times I was asked “Wait, you’re in virtual school? What is that like?”

Today I will answer that very question: What is it like to be a Florida Virtual School Full Time student? Continue reading

Building an Elementary Community at FLVS Full Time

By on March 27th, 2018

This post was written by our FLVS Full Time Elementary Principal for 2018-19, Mr. Marc Rummler.

Even though it seems early, now is the time to start thinking about next school year for many FLVS families and parents across the state. With enrollment for FLVS Full Time now open for the 2018-19 school year, I would like to share a bit about what our online school will offer our younger students for the upcoming school year.

This year, FLVS Full Time is looking forward to accepting students in grades Kindergarten – 5 with a new elementary curriculum. Continue reading

6 Things to Think About When Starting High School

By on March 15th, 2018

One of the most important times of a student’s life is the transition from middle school to high school. Students often ponder important questions about high school, such as:

What should I wear the first day? How can I get into PE with my best friend? How am I supposed to get from one side of the campus to the other in two minutes?

While these questions might be on the forefront of an 8th grader’s mind, there are other important questions that they want to be thinking of before heading to high school. Continue reading

Celebrating Digital Learning at FLVS

By on February 22nd, 2018

Every year, FLVS faculty and staff attend In-Service Training Days in Orlando. It’s always a great opportunity to discuss educational advancements and explore new technologies. This year’s training was held in November and I truly think it’s one of the best times of the year for FLVS teachers.

Our annual In-Service Training Days give us a chance to “sharpen the saw,” collaborate, and network with other colleagues. (It’s kind of like a very productive high school reunion where you get to see your teammates face to face.) Once you get over how great your team leader looks with her new hair color, you can start brainstorming ways to make your live lessons more engaging next semester! Continue reading

In honor of Career and Technical Education Month, a public awareness campaign takes place each February to celebrate the value of CTE and the accomplishments of CTE programs across the country. I would like to recognize all of our outstanding CTE educators and students for making a difference in the world.

Find Yourself in a Book for Celebrate Literacy Week

By on January 22nd, 2018

In a society where we are constantly on the go, it is often difficult to find moments reserved for peace and quiet. It is rare to see someone sitting on a bench or on a beach with a book in hand, enjoying the day.

As we prepare for Celebrate Literacy Week with FLVS, I challenge you to consider what it truly means to find yourself in a book, this year’s Celebrate Literacy Week theme. Personally, I am my most balanced in life when I am taking the time to slow down, taking in the peace and quiet, and getting into a book.  It generally means that I am balanced in other areas of life as well.
