FLVS Corkboard: August Highlights

Hello students and parents, it’s official—the 2018-19 school year has begun!

We know some of you may have been taking courses with us all summer and some are new to FLVS. Either way, we are so glad you are here. We start with a mention to mark your calendar for the first holiday and a “day off.”

Labor Day

In observance of Labor Day, Monday, Sept. 3 has been designated a holiday break for all FLVS instructors and support staff. Students are encouraged to continue their studies as courses remain open, but please be mindful that there will be a brief delay in teacher response.

Register for Fall

There’s still time to sign up and fall is a great time to get ahead in your courses, make up a credit, and even explore specials and electives not offered at your school.

At FLVS, you have 24/7 availability and all courses are FREE to you as a Florida student. That means you can earn your course credits on your schedule and still have time to enjoy all your favorite fall activities. Check out our courses and sign up today.

Virtual Student Club Rush

Have you heard? FLVS is offering a total of 55 student clubs for the 2018-19 school year! Now students—whether in elementary, middle, or high school—can explore extracurricular interests outside their classes and interact with other FLVS students. Join us to learn about the many clubs FLVS has to offer at the Virtual Club Rush on Thursday, Aug. 30 from 4-7 p.m. This is a great way to connect and make new friends at FLVS. Club applications will open Aug. 30.

Elementary Literacy Kick Off

Earlier this month, more than 30 FLVS Flex Elementary students and their families visited the Florida Governor’s Mansion and had the opportunity to spend time with Florida’s First Lady Ann Scott. The First Lady read several books to the Kindergarten-5th grade students, including portions of her own educational children’s book, Ally & Jordi’s Adventures Through Florida.

The event gave FLVS students from across the state a chance to spend time face-to-face with their virtual classmates at the historic Governor’s Mansion as well as meet the First Lady of their state. “On behalf of FLVS, we thank the First Lady for her commitment to literacy and for taking the time to host a special afternoon for FLVS students,” said Sarah Sprinkel, FLVS Director of Elementary Program Development.

Golf for Education

The FLVS Foundation is hosting a fundraiser tournament at Topgolf Orlando on Sunday, Sept. 23 from 2-5 p.m. Golf for Education, One Swing at a Time is a family-friendly event that includes food and drinks, golf challenges and prizes, a lifetime membership to Topgolf, and more—all while raising funds to benefit FLVS students and teachers! Whether you’re a seasoned pro golfer, a beginner, or have never held a club, you’ll enjoy playing in this fun environment. Learn more about this event and buy tickets here.

As you can see, this year has lots of good stuff in store!  Subscribe to The Virtual Voice blog to help keep you connected and follow Florida Virtual School on Facebook for updates and information.

Had a great time at the FLVS Fundraising Golf Event (as did our crew and our TOP Golfers!) and would have never even known about it other than this newsletter!
