Hello New School Year – Elementary Edition

FLVS Flex Elementary serves students in grades Kindergarten through 5th grade. Our teachers can’t wait for another amazing year, but we couldn’t do it without the support of our amazing elementary parents!

The beginning of a new school year brings much excitement and questions tend to follow. There are questions from parents, questions from students, and questions from our FLVS Flex Elementary teachers who want to know how to best serve their students.

Thankfully, there are several things that can be done to ensure a successful transition into a new grade level, whether students are returning FLVS Flex Elementary students or new to FLVS in general.

Tips for parents of online elementary students

Create a clean, quiet learning environment for your child.

This may seem obvious, but remember that when our students are on camera or on the microphone, the class will see everything behind them! This area should be free of distractions to ensure a quality space for your child to learn.

Look ahead on the Weekly Lesson Plan and schedule your week.

Each Friday, our Flex Elementary teachers post the next week’s Weekly Lesson Plan. This is a Monday-Friday schedule of assignments each student will complete. As the home educator, it is a good idea to print this sheet, look ahead at this Weekly Lesson Plan, and schedule out your upcoming week around these tasks. Students also have full access to our Media Center and Skill Development Programs.

Keep ClassTime as a regular block in your schedule.

Woody Allen told that world that, “80% of success is showing up.” That is absolutely the case with ClassTime at FLVS Flex Elementary! While we understand that life can get in the way at times, our own research has shown that our students are most successful when they consistently attend ClassTime. Live ClassTime attendance provides our students with ownership of their learning and allows student interaction among classmates.

Successful students work consistently.

Students learn best when they have the ability to work consistently to master the skills required. They are assigned to submit Weekly Progress and complete Skill Development activities by Friday afternoons. However, should an emergency arise, it is imperative that your child submit the missing work within the following two weeks to receive credit.

Tap into talents with special classes and clubs!
