Florida’s Black History Month Contest

A few years ago, I wrote a blog about the importance of celebrating Black History Month. It is with the same unyielding support of diversity education that I encourage participation in First Lady DeSantis’ Black History Month essay and art competition.

The theme of this year’s contest is “Celebrating Public Service” – an opportunity to honor an African American whose service has made Florida a better place for all to live – and to win a four-year Florida college scholarship!    Continue reading


Win an iPad in our #FLVSCodes Contest

To celebrate our tech-savvy students, FLVS is hosting a contest from Dec. 3, 2018 through Jan. 14, 2019. We want to see how our students are engaging in computer science activities — from coding to construction!

Three lucky winners – one in elementary, one in middle, and one in high school – will be chosen to receive an iPad generously donated by the FLVS Foundation. Winners will be selected based on the quality, creativity, uniqueness, and relevance of their entry. Continue reading

Join the FLVS Summer Brain Challenge!

Scientists have made amazing discoveries about the way our brain cells grow and form new circuits – even into adulthood. The trick to that growth is keeping them engaged by exploring new challenges and concepts.

This summer, we are challenging all of our students and their family and friends to show us what new connections your brain can make!

Over the last several weeks, our Spanish students and Spanish Nuts at Play (SNAP) Club members have shared some amazing videos for Señora Miller’s Lip Sync Challenge.

All of our participants were asked to post a lip sync video of a Spanish song on social media – and now we need your help choosing the best submissions!

We’ve narrowed it down to our top 10, but YOU get to choose our final winner!

Spanish Lip-Sync Challenge

lip syncChallenge your peers to a Spanish Lip Sync Battle!

The FLVS Spanish Club, Spanish Nuts at Play (SNAP) is sponsoring a creative virtual contest for students to practice their Spanish vocabulary skills.

All you have to do is post a video of yourself lip-syncing a song in Spanish that’s 30 seconds or less on social media! Your video might be chosen to be featured by Florida Virtual School or the SNAP club.

You don’t have to be a SNAP member (or even a student!) to participate and join the fun.

Outdoor Education Video Contest Winners

OE Contest coverLast month, FLVS held a contest asking students to create a video describing the benefits gained by taking Outdoor Education.

We received an overwhelming number of submissions during our final hours and everyone really stepped it up. A big thank you to all of our participants for taking the time to submit an entry! There were so many great submissions that it was hard to choose only three winners. We are very appreciative of our judges who helped us narrow it down!
