Algebra Instructor Helps Build Online Student Confidence

Happy Teacher Appreciation Week to all of our incredible Florida Virtual School (FLVS) instructors! Although this is a dedicated week to celebrate our phenomenal teachers, it’s something we love to do every day.  We recognize the hard work and support our teachers dedicate daily to their students, and so do our students. Annette G., an FLVS homeschool student, faced challenges understanding the material in her math class, Algebra 1. But with the support and guidance of her Algebra teacher, Amy DeFrance, Annette finished segment two with high achievements.

FLVS Celebrates Teachers on World Teachers’ Day

Every August, thousands of teachers prepare for the new school year, decorating their classrooms, organizing lessons, and brainstorming fun activities for students. Teachers at Florida Virtual School are no different! Although they may not have a physical classroom where they can see students daily, FLVS teachers find unique ways to create engaging learning experiences for students in the virtual classroom.

Celebrating the Teachers of Today…and Tomorrow

Every year, World Teachers’ Day provides an opportunity to address issues related to educational instruction and our dedicated teachers who are educating the next generation. The 2019 theme of World Teachers’ Day is “Young Teachers: The Future of the Profession.” According to UNESCO, “The day provides the occasion to celebrate the teaching profession worldwide, to take stock of achievements, and to address some of the issues central for attracting and keeping the brightest minds and young talents in the profession.”

I started my full-time career in secondary education in the Fall of 2003. Since then, I’ve had the pleasure of meeting thousands of students. Continue reading

Celebrate Teacher Appreciation WeekWhat is the definition of a teacher?

As described in many dictionaries, a teacher is a person who teaches or instructs, especially as a profession.

While this definition is accurate, we hope you will agree with that it does not sufficiently describe all that a teacher embodies.

This week, Florida Virtual School is celebrating Teacher Appreciation Week, and we would like to expand on the definition of a teacher.

At FLVS, our teachers are superheroes. While they do not wear eye masks or fancy capes, they possess special super powers. They are passionate and dedicated to working with all students, recognizing that each learner is unique and has individual strengths and needs. They go beyond educating—they listen, guide, support, and inspire.
