Congratulations to The Foundation for Florida Virtual School 2013 Outstanding Scholars! This year’s $1,000 scholarship recipients are Ariana Beyer (FLVS Part Time and Douglas Anderson School of the Arts), Leah Colucci (FLVS Part Time and Fort Myers High School), Karina Bodnieks (FLVS Full Time), Amber Bingle (Homeschool), and Marisa Kastner (Homeschool).

The Foundation scholarships were established to recognize outstanding students enrolled in Florida Virtual School (FLVS) who have achieved positive academic records and have gone above and beyond the expectations of a high school student. These students are carefully chosen by The Foundation to highlight their achievements thus far and to aid them in their future academic endeavors.

“I am grateful that I will be graduating from a school that allows students to follow their unique dreams and reach their full potential,” said Karina Bodnieks, 2013 FLVS Full Time Outstanding Scholar. “This scholarship will assist in paying for the costly college courses that are required for me to achieve my goal of continuing my passion for learning at an even more advanced level.”

Through the continuous and generous donations from sponsors and donors, The Foundation is able to provide greater opportunities to under-served students in our community. In addition to scholarships, the Laptop for Learners program allows us to loan donated laptops to students who want to take FLVS courses, but may not have access to the technological resources needed.

The Foundation also focuses on assisting students in our community by supporting educational projects and events that are not paid for with tax dollars. The Foundation’s mini-grant system provides the flexibility to sponsor smaller student events and opportunities which allow for greater student growth and experience.

Whether the opportunity is through student scholarships, laptop loans, professional development, or mini-grants, the goal is the same: strive to ensure that all students have access to a world-class education and quality online learning opportunities that prepare them for a lifetime of success.
