FLVS Hispanic Heritage Month Celebration

Hispanic Heritage Contest
Deadline is Thursday, Oct. 15
All Florida students are invited to participate in the 2020 Hispanic Heritage Month art and essay contests. Theme: “Celebrating Untold Stories and Contributions of Hispanic Americans in Florida.” Full details can be viewed at http://floridahispanicheritage.com. Contest deadline is Thursday, Oct. 15. Literacy Fall Festival
Friday, Nov. 20 – New Date!
Whether in elementary, middle, or high school, there’s an opportunity to join in the fall fun. Literacy Fall Festival events and times are being planned now so keep this date in mind!

National Novel Writing Month
National Novel Writing Month, or NaNoWriMo, is a fun-filled writing challenge that all students can participate. The key is to write every day in November and by the end of the month you have completed an entire novel in just 30 days. Let us know if you plan to write and how it’s going at firstname.lastname@example.org.
Hour of Code
The Hour of Code introduces students to computer science. Designed to demystify code, this fun event shows that anybody can learn the basics. View the free activities and courses from Code.org. Each year, our FLVS clubs also host opportunities to get involved and start coding. Stay tuned for details!
FLVS School Holidays / Upcoming Days Off
Teacher Training Day – Friday, Nov. 6
Florida law requires each school district to provide staff with a professional development plan of in-service hours to meet continuing education requirements. To help fulfill a portion of those hours, all FLVS teachers and staff will be attending FLVS i3 Virtual Training on Friday, Nov. 6, from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. Please make note that there may be a delay in teacher response.
Veteran’s Day – Wednesday, Nov. 11
FLVS is closed Wednesday, Nov. 11, in observance of Veteran’s Day.
Thanksgiving Holiday – Nov. 23-27
Monday, Nov. 23, and Tuesday, Nov. 24, are designated as non-student, teacher professional development days. FLVS teachers and staff have off Wednesday, Nov. 25 – Friday, Nov. 27 in observance of the Thanksgiving holiday. The FLVS Customer Care Center will be open as usual for any student or parent that needs assistance.
During the times mentioned above, students are encouraged to continue in their studies, but please understand there may be a slight delay in grading and returned calls.

Hi Avery, Halloween falls on a Saturday this year so there will be no school. 🙂

Hi Brian, We recommend finishing your assignments prior to the holiday if you do not wish to do school work during the Thanksgiving break. Hope this helps!
Do we do work during christmas break?
Hi Brooklyn. No, students and staff are on break through Christmas. If you wish to complete work during the break, you are welcome to but it is not required. Hope this helps!

Hi CC! All FLVS students, teachers, and staff are off for Winter Break. Students are welcome to continue working in their courses to get ahead, but teachers will grade assignments and respond to any questions after the break.

What are non-student, teacher professional development days?
Hi Seth, Teacher professional development days are an opportunity for teachers to enhance their instructional practices. Students do not have class on these dates.
How long does Christmas break last?
Hi Lynn, Christmas break begins on December 18 and students return to class on January 5. 🙂
January 5th? My teacher said that I can start the next segment on January 4th, a Monday…..🤔
FLVS Full Time officially resumes on January 5th as January 4th is a teacher work day. However, FLVS Flex students can resume on the 4th!
