FLVS Corkboard: Spring Highlights

Hey Florida Virtual School students and families! We hope the start of spring semester is being kind to you. At FLVS, there are all kinds of ways to get involved beyond our online courses. We’re happy to share a few highlights of upcoming events.

First, we want to remind you that Monday, Feb. 15, is Presidents’ Day and a designated holiday for all FLVS teachers and support staff.

Career and Technical Education

February is Career and Technical Education (CTE) Month and FLVS is proud to offer courses that directly prepare students for a wide range of high-wage, high-skill, high-demand careers. covers many different fields, including healthcare, information technology, advanced manufacturing, and many more. Black History Month 

Tuesdays in February at 4 p.m.
February is Black History Month and FLVS is celebrating with special presentations each Tuesday at 4 p.m. Join the Black Student Union and celebrate “Black Excellence in STEM” on Feb. 9, “Black Excellence in the Arts” on Feb. 16, and “Black Activism” on Feb. 23.

Black History Month Art & Essay Contest  

Deadline Friday, Feb. 26

Students Kindergarten-12 are invited to participate in the 2021 contest theme: “Community Champions – Celebrating the Contributions of African Americans in Florida’s Communities.” For more information, visit www.FloridaBlackHistory.com. Students, if you enter, please let your teacher know and also send an email to Mae Martin, FLVS Student Activities Coordinator, for special recognition.

Chinese New Year Virtual Celebration

Feb. 11 at 7 p.m.

All FLVS students are invited to the annual Chinese New Year celebration where you’ll learn more about Chinese New Year including food and activities.

FLVS World Fest Recordings

Thank you to all our student and teacher presenters who supported World Fest: Global Youth Village. It was a great success and we hope you enjoyed learning more about civil and human rights, culture and ethnicity, and different environments around the world. The sessions were recorded and you can listen to them here.

Science Tutoring Help Available

Mondays & Fridays, 2-4:30 p.m.

The FLVS Science National Honor Society is offering science peer tutoring every Monday and Friday from 2-4:30 p.m. FLVS students from all grade levels can drop in during that time frame to ask a question and receive help.
