FLVS: Where Learning is a Pleasure

Have you ever been inside of a Publix grocery store? No matter what city I am in, I always prefer to go to a Publix if I am in need of groceries. No matter which Publix I visit, I know that I will find a clean store, friendly staff, and fast checkout.

Publix has made it a universal and cultural norm to create a clean, friendly environment in order to live up to its motto “where shopping is a pleasure.” And, it is truly a pleasure to shop at Publix.

Notice that no two Publix stores are exactly the same.

One has a bakery in the front, while another has it in the back. Some have a Redbox Movie Rental, while others have Carpet Cleaner Rentals. Although each store has features that make it unique, each store also shares a common goal of making shopping a pleasure. The methodology in how each Publix accomplishes this is unique to its location and clientele, but the goal is accomplished nonetheless because of the shared commitment to making shopping a pleasure.

I got to thinking about the symbolic representation that exists between places like this and FLVS. Just like with Publix, there are no two teachers who are exactly alike. However, we share a goal of transforming education and ensuring that every student has a front row seat.  When people think of FLVS, they think of quality. Although our courses are great, our opportunities are endless, and our clubs are incredible…I believe it is our people who make the greatest difference. Our people, from instruction to the executive level, share a common commitment to keep the student at the center of every decision made. The exact way we do this varies from teacher to teacher and department to department, but at the end of the day it is the students who benefit and get to experience a world-class education.

In a world of school choice, what can you do to provide an experience where your school is the place where learning is a pleasure?
