Ideas to Keep Your Child Engaged at Home

Now more than ever, balancing learning and life can feel like a juggling act. Need help keeping your child engaged in learning at home? Below, we’ve assembled a list of activities from Florida Virtual School and external resources to help keep children entertained, engaged, and learning through the end of the school year and into summer!

1.  Try these fun Florida Virtual School Activity Sheets & Printables that include coloring pages, word searches, and more.

2.  Listen to a real astronaut read a book from space.

3.  Visit a museum virtually. Check out the Smithsonian National Museum of Natural History or this list of 12 famous museums.

4.  Take a yoga class by watching Cosmic Kids Yoga on YouTube.

5.  Try these at-home activities from Girls Who Code.

6.  Grab some paper and pencils and tune into the “Lunch Doodles” livestream video series with children’s author Mo Willems weekdays at 1 p.m. EST on the Kennedy Center’s website.

7.  Watch a variety of animals on live webcams—from pandas, eagles, gorillas, puffins, and even puppies

8.  Try these easy Florida Virtual School science experiments for all ages, including Rainbow Milk Science, a Color-Changing Flowers Experiment, and Rain Clouds in a Jar.

9.   Do a 30-day Lego challenge.

10.  Listen to any one of these great podcasts for students.

11.  Check out the Fun & Games and Books & Stories on the Orange County Library website.

12.  Take a virtual tour of the Anne Frank House.

13.  Learn how to draw at Art for Kids Hub on YouTube.

14.  Create a lava lamp with materials commonly found at home and get a dose of science at the same time.

15.  Watch live webcams of dolphins, otters, pelicans, and sea turtles at the Clearwater Marine Aquarium.

16.  Join Kennedy Space Center for science lessons on Facebook Live Mondays, Wednesdays, and Fridays at 9:30 a.m. EST for young children and 1 p.m. EST for older children. Downloadable activities are also available on their website.

17.  Explore the arts, history, and foreign places with Google Arts & Culture

18.  Check out the Kitchen Pantry Scientist for ideas that mix science, fun, and the kitchen using supplies already in your house.

19.  Take a virtual field trip to top attractions at Yellowstone National Park or the Great Wall of China

20.  Go old school snail mail and write a letter to grandparents or other relatives or friends. Address the envelope, attach a stamp, and mail it.
