Studying Music in the Online Environment

Every child should have the opportunity to access quality music programs in school, and this is no different in a virtual setting! If you’ve been wanting to learn how to play guitar, now is the perfect opportunity to learn from the comfort of your own home.

In addition to the joy and cultural appreciation music brings, music has all kinds of amazing benefits. Do you want to know the secret to developing reasoning and language skills? How about lowering stress, boosting memory, improving coordination? Perhaps acquiring pattern recognition, higher SAT scores, or emotional development? The answer to all of this is music!

For more than 30 years, March has been the official Music in Our Schools Month. Florida Virtual School is proud to be a part of this tradition with our music course offerings.

Guitar 1

Guitar 1 introduces students with little or no experience to the basics of music and guitar performance. This includes different strumming patterns, chords, simple melodies, and even ensemble skills. Florida Virtual School offers online guitar courses for both middle and high school students.

Throughout the course, students are able to use their personal six-string guitar to record and submit video performances to their teacher. Our online Guitar course is also available to students around the world through FlexPoint Virtual School.

Music of the World

Music of the World adds a global perspective as high school students learn about the impact of music on a cultural level. Students acquire basic understanding of singing, listening, and playing instruments from the Middle Ages through the 21st century.

Theatre, Cinema, & Film Production

Lights! Camera! Action! Our Theatre, Cinema, & Film Production course introduces students to the basics of film and theater productions, including the basics of sound and musical scores. Students will analyze and critique various comedies and musicals – as well as influential American films such as Casablanca, Singin’ in the Rain, and The Wizard of Oz.

Whether you want to learn more about the music you are already listening to, explore music from different cultures, or be the next guitar superstar–Florida Virtual School has a course for you!

My child is interested. Please give me a call and elaborate on all the things this program has to offer.

Why can the bloggers get their blogs posted, but not the students? I commented on other posts, and they do not go through, and I am hoping this one does.

I’m interested in taking guitar, but I already have 2 years of prior experience. Is there any way I can take guitar 2?

We currently only offer Guitar 1, but it may still be a great opportunity to practice and your teacher can provide additional practice resources.

Piano is the perfect offering as the keyboard layout lends itself to studying music theory in addition to performance.

I was to flvs, my 7th grader next year. They only hold out is that she loves to play her oboe. We can’t afford the price of private lessons are any of these courses allowing the playing of your band instruments? Any suggestions or should we reconsider staying in her zoned school?

Hi Shelley, We only offer M/J Guitar but homeschool students can participate in extracurricular activities at their zoned school. Be sure to reach out to your school counselor for more information. Hope this helps!
