With the Flexibility to Dream Big, FLVS Graduate Aims for Harvard Law

In an early May afternoon in Cambridge, Massachusetts, you can feel the cool, spring breeze and an electric buzz in the air as Harvard students prepare for graduation. And on the weathered stone steps of Harvard Law School, you can trace the invisible footsteps of some of the country’s most prominent figures—including past and present senators, business leaders, and even Presidents. It’s a place that might feel heavy with expectation. Or full of promise. And it’s exactly where FLVS student Abigail Muller plans to make history.

Abigail aspires to be the youngest graduate from Harvard Law School in its 200-year existence.

“At the end of the day, nothing is impossible,” says Abigail. “I want to obtain the experiences and knowledge that a Harvard Law student would typically have acquired to be accepted and excel in such an extensive program. The only difference is that other students have until they are 25 to complete them. I’m just trying to accomplish them all by the time I’m 18.”

Finding Flexibility and Support

Having joined FLVS Flex in the 6th grade to accommodate a competitive gymnastics career, Abigail stayed with Florida Virtual School after moving on from gymnastics because of the academic rigor, additional class options, and the flexibility to fit school into her schedule.

And she used her time wisely—she has taken on leadership roles in several FLVS clubs, participating in the Geography Bee in middle school, serving as the Editor-In-Chief of VIRGE Magazine, and Vice President of the Speech and Debate Club.

Over time, she also built a resume outside of school to help her reach her goals—founding a human rights magazine called EPTIRE, representing the entire state of Florida in North American Youth Congress, and working as a research scholar at Harvard Kennedy School. All while brushing up on her U.S. History.

“My favorite FLVS class I have taken was definitely United States History,” Abigail shared. “I felt this class gave me in-depth knowledge regarding the history of our country and how we can learn from our past mistakes to improve in the future. This class also was taught by my favorite FLVS teacher, Mr. Krieder. To this day, he is still one of the best teachers I have ever had. He truly cares about the success of his students and does so in an engaging way. He has always believed in me and the potential I had to make a difference in the world.”

Dreaming Bigger

Armed with a contagious spirit of ambition, an unwavering commitment to work hard for what she wants, plenty of time management practice from her time in FLVS Flex, and a clear vision—Abigail will graduate from high school this month at just 16 years old and an associate degree in Political Science from Indian River College.

“You’re the only one who knows your limits, and nothing is impossible as long as you believe in yourself…FLVS has helped me reach my goals by teaching me independence as a learner. It has prepared me for higher education because in college you have to obtain a certain amount of independence and responsibility to do well.”

Her next stop is the University of Central Florida’s pre-law program, which she is planning to graduate from within a year. From there, she plans to take a gap year studying for the LSAT exam in Paris, and then head home to apply and prepare for, hopefully, Harvard Law School.

After that, her goals are simple: work as a lawyer, become a national politician and make the world a better place for everyone.

She shared, “I profoundly enjoy the chance to hear, meet, help, and change the lives of others. I believe the power to help others expands far beyond any other self-serving action and has a lasting impact on gratitude, care, and humanity.”
