Rising to the Top of the Virtual Stack
Gone are the days of paper job applications. Gone are the days of dropping off your resume. Gone are the days of stopping by to meet the hiring manager. We now live in a digital age, in a virtual world. Job applications are now online and can be submitted at the push of a button.
How do you set yourself apart from the hundreds, if not thousands, of other job-seekers vying for the exact same position you want?
You wow them with an amazing resume that puts you right at the top of the virtual stack!
Here are some basic tips for writing a concise, dynamic, and relevant resume:
– Think of your resume as a snapshot of your skills and abilities. You want to give your potential employer a quick view of what you accomplished in previous jobs and what sets you apart from the other applicants.
– Use your resume to communicate directly about your work habits. List your accomplishments, not just job duties, in bullet points under each job heading.
– Make it look good. Too little white space on your page and it is overwhelming for the reader.
Too much white space and it looks like you don’t have much to say.
– Don’t add too much detail. You want your reader to be able to quickly identify the key points of
each section through functional and concise statements. By leaving some room to elaborate, you will have plenty of material to talk about during your interview.
– Keep it short — two pages at the most…but one is even better!
– And, last but certainly not least, PROOFREAD! Put your best foot forward by double-checking
your spelling, grammar, and punctuation.
