Congratulations, Graduates!
This post was written by 2017-18 FLVS Full Time Senior Class President, McKenzie Underwood.
Class of 2018, we made it! After counting down the days until graduation all year, we finally crossed the finish line. There is not a single person who did not work extremely hard to get this far. All the late nights studying, the DBAs, the live lessons, the collaborations, the final exams, they were all worth it. Be proud of yourselves, you didn’t get here by mistake.
I would like to take a moment to acknowledge some of the amazing people who helped us get through the past four years of high school.
To every parent, grandparent, sibling, friend, and supporter: thank you! Thank you for standing by us. Thank you for believing in us. Thank you for pushing us to be the best version of ourselves that we can be. It means more to us than you know.
To every teacher, class sponsor, and counselor: we couldn’t have made it without you. You have devoted your time to us, going above and beyond what is in your job description. You kept us on track to graduate and offered every bit of support that you had. You’ve taught us so much and we are so grateful.
Fellow students: this is the start of the rest of our lives. When we walked across the stage and received our diplomas last week, we officially left high school behind. But it’s not just about what we are leaving behind, it is about what we are heading towards. Looking out at all my classmates at graduation, I saw so many bright futures – college degrees, successful careers, world travelers, and change makers. So, do not be sad that high school is over, be excited about your life that lies ahead. As Nora Ephron said, “Your education is a dress rehearsal for a life that is yours to lead.” Take what you have learned these last four years and use it to become the best that you can be.
Today we look ahead to what comes next. Some will go to college, some will join the military, some will jump straight into the workforce. But no matter where you go, I want you to remember these things. You are strong; you have made it through four grueling years of high school. You are resilient; you have faced challenges and come out on top. But most importantly, you are unique and nobody can do what you can do. Never forget what makes you you!
Class of one eight, we made this year great.
