Accelerated Online Learning
Bella V., a student in a brick-and-mortar school and math aficionado, was self-motivated to improve her math skills and excel in math competitions with her math club. With the suggestion from her math club coach, she discovered FLVS Flex and enrolled in pre-algebra, an eighth grade course, over the summer before her seventh grade year. Bella immersed herself in a world of advanced resources and personalized learning tailored precisely to her needs and abilities. FLVS provided the perfect online platform for Bella to challenge herself, setting the stage for her to soar academically.
A Variety of Courses to Pique Student Interest
Private school senior Breanna B. found that FLVS Flex had a variety of courses not offered at her school. By taking courses that piqued her curiosity, Breanna successfully completed the Career and Technical Education Principles of Teaching program of study, a progression of three courses that can result in students taking industry-level certifications. Nurturing her passion for education, Breanna seized the opportunity to explore the world of teaching, laying a solid foundation for her future career endeavors.
Lily W. has a love for flowers and all things agriculture. Taking all three courses in the Agriculture Communications program of study allowed her to take and pass the Agricultural Associate and Agriculture Communications Specialist industry certifications. As a homeschooled junior, the flexibility allows her to volunteer eight hours a week in the mornings at a local garden and nursery. Through her volunteering she explores her passions and experiences hands-on opportunities in a field she hopes to join one day, all while earning volunteer hours for her Bright Futures scholarship.
Flexibility to Pursue Passions
Ahmani G. is one of the best junior tennis players in the world and faced the challenge of balancing her rigorous training schedule with her academic pursuits. A brick-and-mortar learning environment couldn’t accommodate her demanding schedule of national and international competitions throughout the year. Enter Florida Virtual High School, offering Ahmani the flexibility she needed to pursue her dreams relentlessly. By setting her own schedule, Ahmani played tennis in the morning when it was cooler, took a break for lunch and school, and continued practicing in the evenings. She graduated from Florida Virtual High School in 2023 and currently attends the University of California, Los Angeles (UCLA).
Singing sensation and fourth grader, Pranysqa M., has sung “O Canada” and “The Star-Spangled Banner” at sporting events across the U.S. and Canada. With her flourishing music career, Pranysqa’s parents sought a schooling option to accommodate her demanding performance schedule. Florida Virtual Elementary School emerged as the perfect fit, offering Pranysqa the support and flexibility she needed to thrive academically while pursuing her passion for music. Thanks to online learning, Pranysqa strikes the perfect harmony between her academic and artistic pursuits, paving the way for a bright future in the world of music.
An aspiring young author and junior, Joi T., is already a published writer with her first book, “The Tale of Lamar A. Love: We’ll Be Alright.” Besides the benefit of learning about outlines, syntax, and diction during her English Language Arts courses, she appreciates the flexibility FLVS gives her schedule so she can write whenever she feels the most inspired.
Consistency During Military Moves
Geo C., a freshman at Florida Virtual High School, moved multiple times throughout his childhood due to his father’s career in the Army. By embracing online learning, Geo maintained academic continuity despite multiple relocations. Other benefits of online learning with FLVS allowed Geo to work ahead to finish the school year ahead of schedule and enjoy a longer break to immerse himself in new cultures and experiences while his family was stationed in Europe.
The Transformation Impact of Digital Learning
Digital Learning Day serves as a poignant reminder of the transformative potential of online education for learners of all backgrounds and abilities. As we celebrate the inspiring journeys of students like Bella, Breanna, Ahmani, Pranysqa, Joi, Lily, and Geo, let us continue to champion the power of digital learning in shaping a brighter future for all learners.
