FLVS Corkboard: Thanksgiving Edition
It’s hard to believe that we’re well into November and dashing into December at full speed! The holidays bring a bustle of activities, both at home and at school. Then spring semester is around the corner!
With Teacher Training Days and holiday breaks approaching, be sure to mark your calendar with these important dates and catch up on other news below.
FLVS School Spirit Events
FLVS spirit was on full display in October with many virtual and face-to-face events!
In FLVS Full Time, high school students participated in games and activities to win the class spirit week during #FLVSSharkWeek. At the end of the week, students gathered for a fun face-to-face field day with the school mascot, Megabytes! During the same week, elementary and middle school students dressed up for special days like Wacky Hair and Hat Day for Red Ribbon Week.
In FLVS Flex Elementary, students participated in our annual literacy Vocabulary Parade and shared costumes featuring impressive vocabulary words. Elementary students also enjoyed face-to-face fun at locations across the state on Friday, Nov. 1. Students at the Central Florida meetup had the opportunity to visit with Principal Rizzo and Dr. Algaze, FLVS President and CEO.
Student Leadership at FLVS Full Time
This year, FLVS Full Time Elementary became “A Leader in MeTM School” and is incorporating the 7 Habits of Success into each student’s educational journey. The goal of this program is to give our students the tools they need to lead the next generation and to be college and career ready in the years to come. Each month, teachers nominate students for demonstrating leadership character traits.
In FLVS Full Time Middle School, students continue to build upon these skills with opportunities to demonstrate leadership. During Morning Announcements, the middle school recites the “Megabyte Promise” that encourages hard work and dedication. This extends to everything our students do as students, leaders, and productive citizens in their local communities.
For FLVS Full Time High School students, leadership opportunities include roles with Student Council. Our class officers plan student events, share feedback, participate in community service, and more.
FLVS Full Time enrollment is now open for the spring semester for all grades.

Schoolwide Book Battle
FLVS Flex and FLVS Full Time are excited for the second annual Book Battle! “Battle of the Books” is an exciting academic competition that improves reading comprehension, builds vocabulary, and promotes teamwork and sportsmanship. This year, all grades can compete in a “Battle of the Books” to share their knowledge of the Sunshine State Books.
To learn more about the Battle of the Books, email Ms. Vallieres.
Letters to Honor Veterans
The FLVS 6-12 Book Club would like your help in saluting our heroes. Write a letter thanking a veteran for his/her service (artwork is appreciated too). Letters and artwork will be distributed to Veterans via Southeast Florida Honor Flight. Honor Flight is a 100 percent volunteer organization that sends WWII, Korean War, and Vietnam veterans to Washington, D.C. to reflect at their memorials, at no cost to the veterans. Letters can be emailed to Ms. Waldrop.
FITT Club Movement Challenge
Join the FLVS FITT Cub Movement Challenge and get MOVING during December for health benefits during the holiday season! Set a goal for yourself to be physical. Get walking, running, dancing, jumping a few times a week and keep a log of your accomplishments from Dec. 2-18. Post your picture of you in motion to our Movement Challenge padlet and keep a fitness log with total minutes moved. Not involved in a club at FLVS? That’s okay, movement is good for everyone!
