FLVS Full Time Graduation Rate Increases
Florida Virtual School (FLVS) is excited to announce that our FLVS Full Time High School 2018-19 graduation rate was 87.7%, an increase of 6.3 percentage points over last year. In addition, the team celebrated an increase of 21 percentage points since the 2015-16 school year.
Our high school team has worked exceptionally hard over the last few years to implement new initiatives to increase student success. Contributors to this success include:
High-Quality Teachers
The teaching staff at FLVS Full Time High School is outstanding. They are dedicated, creative, student-centered, and solution focused. The synergy they create has a direct impact on student achievement.
Strategic Use of Student Data
Reviewing student baseline data prior to the start of course work has led to better course placement, targeted interventions, and individualized success plans.
Homeroom Model
A homeroom model was implemented in 2017-18 to better utilize the homeroom teacher for personalized, in-depth conversations. Teachers maintain the strong relationships forged during the year and help guide students toward their graduation goals.
Senior Conferences
School counselors offer each senior one-on-one conferences to target graduation goals, student needs, testing requirements, GPA progress, and any other specific information to ensure academic success.
Consistent Leadership
The same administrative team has provided leadership for the Full Time High school for four consecutive years. This consistency has also led to sustained initiatives and relationships focused on teacher and student success. In addition, the leadership team was aligned to support specific areas of focus. This has allowed our Assistant Principals to focus on a specific population of teachers and students, leading to a better student experience and higher level of success.
The 2018-19 FLVS graduation rate is slightly higher (0.8%) than the state average. The percentage is based on the cohort that began 9th grade in the 2015-16 school year, which is also the first year the FLVS Full Time High School grade levels were brought under the FLVS instructional model and systems. These above strategies (among others!) have all contributed to the rise in graduation rates.
Congratulations to our students, parents, teachers, and administration for an amazing year!
