FLVS Hosts 3rd Annual Geography Bee
This January, ten students from the FLVS Flex Geo Bee Club participated in the 3rd annual school competition of the National Geographic GeoBee. August Speisman won first place, Nathaniel Pierce placed second, and Danilo Randon finished in third place.
Led by club sponsors David Fellows and Elise Harris, the school competition is the first round in the annual National Geographic GeoBee, a geography competition designed to inspire and reward students’ curiosity about the world. Questions cover not only geography, but also ancient and world civilizations, cultures, and physical features.
The National Geographic Society developed the GeoBee in 1989 in response to concern about the lack of geographic knowledge among young people in the United States. Over more than three decades, more than 120 million students have learned about the world through participation in the GeoBee.
School champions, including August, will take an online qualifying test; up to 100 of the top test scorers in each state then become eligible to compete in their State GeoBee. The winners of the State GeoBees receive an all-expenses-paid trip to participate in the GeoBee national championship in Spring 2020. Students will be competing for cash prizes, scholarships, and an all-expenses-paid Lindblad expedition to the Galápagos Islands aboard the National Geographic Endeavour ll. In addition to the GeoBee, National Geographic also offers classroom resources, student experiences, and professional development opportunities for educators.

I feel that I could probally do the history part! I am just very bad at remebering most of the other subjects the post said you need to know! I guess that I just like history.
BAD JOKE: history is ‘his story’ (like ‘his story’ about his life).
That’s great to hear about! wish FLVS Full-time offered this option. My son would also be interested in a spelling bee.
I could probally do that too, I like spelling as well!
Congrats! You guys are proof that good things come to those who are willing to sacrifice time to reach a worthwhile goal. Words can’t express how happy I am for you! 🙂
I actually do GeoBee at the State Level in my school and I am enrolled in SCVS. It is good to hear that FLVS has a Geo Bee
Oh, I did a school spelling bee a while back, when I was in second grade, but I was number 6, and only the top five won and got to go to state level, so that was not the best. But nice to hear you did a GeoBee (I am not the best at remembering stuff like that)!
What grades do spelling bees? I would be interested in that, but I don’t know if they do it for 7th grade though… 😛
