#Classof2022 Grad, Lily J., Amongst Top 5 of Class

What does it take to be at the top of the class at Florida Virtual School? For FLVS graduate Lily Jamison, perspective makes all the difference. The secret to her success is focusing on the opportunities ahead, rather than the challenges in front of her—a strategy that has made even the most rigorous courses less intimidating and more manageable.

Advancing to the Next Level

With designations like the 2020 AP Scholar with Honors and 2021 AP Scholar with Distinction, it’s clear to see that Lily knows a thing or two about achieving success in Advanced Placement courses. And she’s not keeping her secrets to herself!

When we asked her to share some of her tips for students wanting to take AP courses, she said “not to be afraid of having difficulty with some of the course work. After all, they are difficult classes, and they challenge your brain to learn and grow!” But don’t swap out all your courses for AP. Lily recommends starting with one or two AP classes and gradually adding more into your course load.

The Power of Online Learning

And online learning helped too! After enrolling with FLVS Full Time two years ago due to the pandemic, Lily realized that online learning was the perfect fit for her learning style, and the additional flexibility allowed her to do more.

She even joined the National Honor Society (NHS) which gave her the opportunity to meet other FLVS Full Time students while elevating her community service and leadership skills. While she reflected on her NHS experience, she shared that one of her favorite memories was working on a group service project to make cards for different organizations like Letters of Love and A Million Thanks. “It was really fun to work on something to make others smile along with my fellow club members.”

Scoring High In and Out of the Classroom

It’s clear to see that her perseverance helped her achieve new academic heights, but school isn’t the only place where Lily put her energy. For the past 5 years, she’s played volleyball at her local high school in Santa Rosa Beach, where she met some of her best friends and learned valuable lessons about hard work and resilience. In fact, her team won back-to-back district championships and played at the state-level the past two years. Although she’s hanging up her high school jersey, Lily hopes to play on a recreational or club team when she attends Auburn University in the fall.

Congratulations on all that you’ve achieved, Lily!
