FLVS Class of 2021: High School Survival Guide

Making memories with friends. Navigating college and career prep. Learning more about who you are and who you want to be. High school has its collection of perks and challenges—especially when you’re doing it virtually. And when coupled with senior year during a global pandemic, the Class of 2021 has accomplished an incredible feat. Get their advice based on their unique experiences and lessons learned!

As a new class of freshman, sophomores, juniors, and seniors rise to the next level, our graduating class of 2021 has advice to help them navigate virtual school and make the most of their high school years.

“You’re more than just a grade or a test score.”–Ryan Miller

When you have big dreams, you can easily become consumed by your goals and achievements. A bump along the way can feel like an earthquake and a block in the road can feel like the end of the road. In times like these, take a deep breath and remind yourself that high school is just one phase of your life. If you continue to work hard, you will still find your way.

“Don’t be afraid to ask for help.”–Sydney Montalbano

Asking for help can be a daunting task but everyone needs a helping hand sometimes. It may sound cliché, but your teachers and counselors are here to help you succeed! Ask for clarification. Ask for more resources. Ask for advice. You will be amazed at how fast you can grow with the support of others.

“Find something you enjoy like a hobby and stick to it. Practice it on your free time and you will see how talented you can truly become.”–Harel Twito

High school is more than the courses you take – it is the things you learn, the experiences you have, and the people you meet along the way. Take time to explore your interests and find your passions!

“The world needs well-rounded people who have developed multiple skills and learned more about themselves by spending time in several activities. So, take different types of classes and explore all kinds of hobbies and clubs.”–Julia Willis

Whether you are looking for an advanced track to prepare for college, plan to get a certification and skills from Career and Technical Education program of study, or want to find others who share similar interests, FLVS offers so many courses, clubs, and activities to high school students. Don’t be afraid to put yourself out there and make your high school path your own!

“Even though it seems like forever, trust me, it’s not.”–Brian Gonzalez

Four years seems like a lifetime when you are an incoming freshman but, like they say, time flies when you are having fun. Go to that event, join that club, take way too many pictures, and enjoy everything that high school has to offer. By the end of these four short years, you will have so many wonderful memories to look back on.

“Follow your dreams, put in the work to make them a reality, and don’t let anyone stop you.”–Abigail Muller

High school is the perfect time to get inspired, learn new things, and explore your passions. And if there’s one thing the Class of 2021 learned during their time in high school, it’s that the sky’s the limit.

Thank you and congratulations to the Class of 2021!
