NEW! Computer & Network Security Fundamentals

As our world continues to become more and more digital, our vulnerability to cyberattacks soars. According to a study by the Clark School, on average, cybercriminals attack computers with internet access every 39 seconds! With this alarming statistic, it is no surprise that cybersecurity jobs are among the fastest growing occupations in the United States, along with thousands of other computing careers.

Florida Virtual School (FLVS) continues to expand its STEM and Career and Technical Education (CTE) curriculum for grades Kindergarten-12. These courses provide students a unique opportunity to graduate from high school prepared for high-demand career opportunities.

Develop Cybersecurity Knowledge

Computer & Network Security Fundamentals is the newest CTE course offered by FLVS. High school students with a passion for computers and technology can develop the fundamental knowledge and computing skills necessary for cybersecurity professionals.

Learn How to Protect Virtual Data and Devices

In this course, students will discover the evolution of computers and operating systems to understand how they are used today. As students learn about these complex machines, they will uncover how cybercriminals are able to use computers to cause harm as well as how to protect themselves and others from malicious cyberattacks. They will learn how to navigate through computer networks and acquire the skills necessary to secure and monitor data.

Students will be able to test their new cybersecurity skills using interactive virtual labs embedded in the course. Using only their own web browser, students will leverage up-to-date hardware, software, and scenarios used by today’s cyber professionals to learn the important, hands-on skills required to identify threats and defend computer networks.

Prepare for an Exciting Career in Cybersecurity

Computer & Network Security Fundamentals is the second in a sequence of three courses in the Applied Cybersecurity Program of Study. Students will prepare for the nationally recognized CompTIA Security+ certification, which tests their security knowledge and skills to ensure they can perform basic functions required for a career in cybersecurity.

The Applied Cybersecurity Program of Study includes three courses:

Digital Information Technology*
Computer & Network Security Fundamentals
Cybersecurity Essentials (Available June 2021)

  • Digital Information Technology*
  • Computer & Network Security Fundamentals

Can my son take Cycbersecurity Essentials if he has had AP Computer Science (not principles) with an A and a 4 on the AP test? He has also had Web Design and received the Microsoft Associate certification. Would these courses allow him to place directly into Cybersecurity Essentials? Thanks!
