Our program of study areas are a progression of industry-focused classes that create accessible pathways to gaining the skills and certifications you need for college and career success. We hope that through these courses and programs of study you discover and explore your passions so you feel set up for success, no matter what path you decide.

Artificial Intelligence in the World

Did you know the artificial intelligence (AI) industry is expected to experience a steady job growth of 37% between 2023 and 2030? Plus, more than 77% of the world’s population currently uses an AI-powered device or service! If you’re interested in learning more about this transformative technology that is revolutionizing various aspects of our lives, check out the first course in the new Artificial Intelligence Foundations program of study, Artificial Intelligence in the World. 

This introductory course will guide you through the concepts, tools, and building blocks of artificial intelligence and give a broad overview of how AI is used in decision-making and problem-solving worldwide. You’ll also have the opportunity to explore the various parts of AI with hands-on activities through the use of chatbots and other interactive elements. 

This course is especially exciting because FLVS is one of the only Florida districts that currently offers insight into the world of AI! You can also look forward to additional AI courses in the AI program of study coming soon.

Foundations of Curriculum and Instruction

Have your teachers made an impact on your life? Are you looking to do the same for future generations? Then Foundations of Curriculum and Instruction is the course for you! 

Throughout the course, you’ll get a glimpse of the classroom environment, develop your portfolio, participate in field observations, and observe firsthand how teachers carry out lessons in the classroom. If you decide to take this course, you must participate in 50 hours of classroom observations. Once you finish the course, you can opt to take the Florida Teacher Certification Examination (FTCE) and Professional Education Test. 

The Principles of Teaching program of study gives you the technical and soft skills you need to become a professional educator. Foundations of Curriculum and Instruction is an honors-level course and the third and final in the program of study. If you’re interested in completing the full program of study, you’ll first have to complete Introduction to the Teaching Profession and Human Growth and Development respectively.

Hospitality & Tourism Marketing Management

Florida continues to see record growth of visitors yearly, with over 137 million visitors to the state last year. As such, the hospitality and tourism industry supports these visitors with over 1.7 million jobs. With its vibrant, diverse, and economic benefits for the state, Florida’s hospitality and tourism industry offers excellent job opportunities. 

If you’re interested in learning about marketing and management principles specific to the hospitality and tourism industry, then you won’t want to miss our new Hospitality & Tourism Marketing Management Course! With the sales, marketing, and entrepreneurship skills necessary to succeed in future jobs, you’ll look to future career opportunities and understand the employment qualifications necessary to embrace them. Upon completion of the course, you can opt to take the CIW: Social Media Strategist certification test. 

This is the third and final course in the Hospitality & Tourism program of study. If you’re interested in completing the full program of study, you must complete the Introduction to Hospitality and Tourism and Technology for Hospitality and Tourism courses first.

Principles of Entrepreneurship

Are you thinking about owning your own business one day? Then the new Entrepreneurship program of study is perfect for you!

In the first course, Principles of Entrepreneurship, you’ll identify the characteristics and traits of entrepreneurs and assess personal strengths and weaknesses for success. You’ll learn the steps in starting a business, the role of the economy in small businesses, the basic principles of marketing, selling, distributing, and financing, and the workforce readiness skills needed to be a successful entrepreneur.
