Stay on Track this Summer with Online Courses
The 2019-20 school year challenged students, teachers, and parents in unique ways as school closures transformed the way most students attend school. Now that summer is in full swing, we’re proud to say, “We made it!” but there are still a lot of questions about how schools will operate in the upcoming year.
Despite the uncertainties, students can take summer courses and get a jump start on the coming year with Florida Virtual School (FLVS) to ensure they stay on track with their academic goals.
Here are a few of the courses we recommend for students looking to get back on track or get ahead this summer.
Online Courses for Grades 9-12
From extracurricular activities to filling out college applications, our high school students are busy! FLVS provides flexible options that allow students to access learning wherever they are, so students can pursue their hobbies and interests without missing an academic beat.
Summer break is a great opportunity for high school students to get back on track as they plan for graduation and college. Students can take core, honors, college level, elective, and world language courses with FLVS.
We offer 15 Advanced Placement (AP) courses that are approved by the College Board. After students complete an AP course, students can take the AP exam to earn college credit.

Students can also choose from one of our five World Language options including American Sign Language, Chinese, French, Latin, and Spanish.
In American Sign Language 1, students learn how to communicate with basic ASL and explore deaf culture. In this course, students use video to practice their ASL, communicate with their teacher, and complete assignments.

For students looking to grow their leadership skills, FLVS and Mawi Learning offer three electives for high school students, including Critical Thinking and Study Skills, Career Research and Decision Making, and Leadership Skills Development. Coached by student leadership expert, Mawi Asgedom, students develop practical leadership skills that will help them succeed in high school, college, and beyond!

Online Courses for Grades 6-8
With online courses, middle school students have the flexibility to access their courses anywhere, anytime this summer. All they need is a reliable internet connection. We recommend core courses in English, Math, Science, and Social Studies to help students stay on track in these subject areas.
In M/J Language Arts, students in grades 6-8 develop their reading and critical thinking skills through various fiction and nonfiction pieces.
