Here’s a summer riddle for you: “When do you go at red and stop at green?”

Answer: When you’re eating a slice of watermelon!

Summertime is here and that could mean taking a trip somewhere, spending time at the beach or pool, going to cookouts, watching movies, reading, or hanging out and visiting family and friends. Or maybe you’re taking a summer class or two with FLVS to work ahead or catch up. Whatever the case may be, leave some time for science fun. FLVS Yearbook Club: Unbound

FLVS Yearbook ClubNearly five years ago, the first edition of the Florida Virtual School yearbook, Unbound, was published.

Many things have changed since then, but one thing has not – this is a yearbook created by and for “unbound” students. At FLVS, students are not bound to four walls of a classroom, nor are they bound to lectures that feel endless. Unbound was created to show off these exemplary students and our exemplary school.

My name is Scott Schneider and I am the Editor-in-Chief of this year’s Unbound yearbook. I am a Junior at FLVS Full Time, and I can testify to the unbound feeling that FLVS provides. Our goal is to provide that same feeling to students in the yearbook. We have created many ways to get involved this year without being bound to deadlines, countless hours of work, etc.

Meet FLVS Student Lauren Mackey

LaurenMy first course with Florida Virtual School was M/J Language Arts II with Ms. Wilson.

At the time, I was in seventh grade and planning on majoring in English at New York University to pursue a career as an author. One of my Language Arts assignments had me writing a five paragraph essay about the definition of love, which I definitely had enough experience to write about at the age of 13.

When I presented the essay to Ms. Wilson over the phone, I recall her describing my essay as something she expected to hear from an adult, out of a magazine, and encouraging me to join the FLVS Newspaper Club, News In A Click (NIAC). Continue reading


Meet FLVS Student Samantha Morris

samantha morrisFLVS students are quite amazing, as we all know, but some of them absolutely excel in multiple areas. Samantha Morris, FLVS veteran, is a superstar journalist, scientist, researcher, and leader.

Looking at Samantha’s impressive resume will easily exhaust anyone. She has achieved awards for her academic talents, writing, and interest in science. Samantha was recently named an AP Scholar with Distinction by the College Board and was named a National Gold Key Winner by the Quill and Scroll International Journalism Honor Society for her opinion writing.

At FLVS, she was named “2013 Student of the Year” and “2014 Shining Star.” Continue reading
