Teacher Honored for Excellence in Distance Learning

Florida Virtual School is proud to announce that one of our teachers, Lisa Fabulich, was honored with the prestigious Excellence in Teaching/Training award by The United States Distance Learning Association (USDLA). The award was presented at the 2019 International Distance Learning Awards show at the 2019 National Conference in Nashville, TN. The award is presented annually to organizations and individuals engaged in the development and delivery of distance learning programs.

In February, Lisa Fabulich was also selected as the 2019-20 FLVS Teacher of the Year from more than 1,500 instructors. Lisa, an FLVS Full Time Biology teacher, masterfully uses the online classroom to create rich, thematic environments for her students to discover new ideas and explore their understanding of complex scientific concepts.

In addition to her role as a teacher, Lisa has become a subject matter expert in 6-12 grade level sciences and has made significant contributions to FLVS Full Time High School and Middle School by coaching and supporting her peers as online educators.

“I am incredibly honored to have received this award from USDLA and to represent Florida Virtual School as the 2020 FLVS Teacher of the Year,” said Lisa. “During my 12 years at FLVS, I’ve had the privilege to work with the most enthusiastic and passionate educators in the state. The dedication and individualized attention provided to our students and their families is very unique and highly engaging. It inspires me daily.”

“Lisa Fabulich’s high expectations, work ethic, positivity, and commitment to students and their needs is simply unmatched,” said Robin Winder, Executive Director of Full Time Instruction. “In her time at Florida Virtual School she has been afforded with, and fully capitalizes on, the unique opportunity to adeptly tailor her teaching to the distinct needs of each student. Lisa takes great professional and personal pride in forming authentic relationships with her students and their families and finds ways to connect curriculum to their individual interests and strengths.”

“As a premier organization for the entire distance learning profession, we are honoring Lisa Fabulich as a leader in the industry,” said Dr. Reggie Smith III, Executive Director of USDLA. “Lisa has raised the bar of excellence.”

The USDLA Awards were created to acknowledge major accomplishments in distance learning and to highlight those distance learning instructors, programs, and professionals who have achieved and demonstrated extraordinary results through the use of online, videoconferencing, satellite and blended learning delivery technologies.

Way to go Lisa! We are so proud of you!
