FLVS Club Awards Day: Celebrating Student Excellence

Recently, Florida Virtual School (FLVS) recognized over 200 student leaders at its annual Club Awards Day. The event showcased the accomplishments of students involved in more than 60 online clubs with performances, demonstrations, and club exhibit boards highlighting each club’s accomplishments from the year. But the best part of the day? Seeing FLVS students meet face-to-face (sometimes for the first time) and enjoying each other’s company.

American Sign Language Day Fosters Connection Among Online Students and Teachers

Every year, on April 15, the world comes together to celebrate American Sign Language (ASL) Day, commemorating the rich culture and linguistic diversity of the Deaf community. To celebrate at Florida Virtual School (FLVS), we’re spotlighting two incredible individuals who share a love of ASL – 11th-grade FLVS Flex student and ASL Honor Society club member Angelina A., and ASL Honor Society club sponsor Mrs. Vera Gilmore.

Finding Connection through Student Clubs

Many are surprised to learn that FLVS offers students the opportunity to join student clubs and activities. As an online school, we know how important it is for our Kindergarten-12th grade students to get involved outside of taking courses. Students need a safe space to explore interests, strengthen skills, build their resume, and most importantly, make connections and friends.

FLVS Selects New President & CEO

The FLVS Board of Trustees is happy to announce the appointment of Dr. Jodi Marshall, Executive Vice President, Business and School Solutions, as the new President and CEO of FLVS effective July 1, 2017. Dr. Marshall, a visionary leader and innovator who embodies the values of FLVS, will work together with Ronald Blocker to ensure a smooth transition upon his departure June 30.

Dr. Marshall has held many positions leading up to her current role over Business and School Solutions including English instructor, Principal, and Vice President of Instruction, since she joined the FLVS family in 2002. Her experience and her dedication to our students, parents, schools, and districts will allow her to continue to drive FLVS forward.   Continue reading
