The Importance of Online School Attendance
While a scientific study has not been conducted of how many FLVS Flex students “come to school” in their pajamas, we do know that it is one of the perks of online learning!
Comfy clothes are a benefit, but sometimes it is difficult for students to approach online learning with the same structure as they would a traditional school. While students don’t have to get up at a specific time and get dressed each day, attendance is still important.
Many studies, however, have been conducted on the importance of school attendance. This data spans the traditional and online environment. The bottom line: to be successful in education, you must show up!
Here are some tips to help online learners ensure they are engaged every day.
Set a schedule from the beginning.
In a survey conducted in 2014, 61% of homeschool students responded that they joined FLVS Flex for flexibility. While you can work on our courses at any time, from anywhere, it is important that you work consistently! Students generally spend about 4-6 hours in each course each week to be able to submit the minimum 3-4 assignments per course per week. Whether you are taking one course with us or five, it’s imperative to set a schedule right off the bat so you can hold yourself accountable.
Make connections with your teachers.
Data shows that students who feel connected to someone at their school are more likely to attend their classes! When you attend a live lesson, reach out to your teacher for a welcome call, monthly call, or just to ask for some help, you have a chance to get to work with someone who really cares about you and your education. So, call us today!
Consistency is key.
We all know how easy it is to get into bad habits. However, it is just as easy to create good ones! Students who work consistently each day/week can understand the material better and move forward. Nothing is worse than having forgotten everything you learned because you haven’t touched a subject in a week or more. Learning is easier for those who focus on the material consistently! Once you get in a groove of working consistently, it will become like second nature!
We know that every student can be successful if they work consistently and reach out for help when they need it! The important part is to take the first step and show up. Whether that means that you log in to your computer in your PJs at 10 AM or you are up and on the bus at 7 AM, your education is important to us and we need your presence!
I am weird, I have a good dressing syndrome (as I like to call it) and I almost never wear pajamas during the day! Anyway, nice post!
i get dressed, too! except, i am likely to be wearing a t-shirt and yoga pants.
Yeah, I do jeans and a nice shirt, but I am really weird.
I am interested in FV Flex. My son is 14 and will be moving into High school. I would like Cade to be able to complete required requirements for graduation early due to Dual enrollment option.
