Blended School Receives Teens for Jeans Grant
By Guest Blogger on May 6th, 2015
Western Eagle Bilingual School is a private blended school in Mayagüez, PR that has been using FlexPoint Education Cloud curriculum since 2010. They recently participated in a national campaign to collect jeans for homeless teenagers sponsored by Aeropostale and DoSomething.org called Teens for Jeans. Read their story here:
As I was reading “Leadership for Students,” published by the National Association of Secondary School Principals for NJHS and NHS Members, I came across a short article about a school in the United States that participated in DoSomething.org’s Teen for Jeans campaign by donating 500 jeans. I thought to myself, we can collect even more than that at our school!
The challenge was on. Continue reading
Spanish Lip-Sync Challenge
By Guest Blogger on April 7th, 2015
Challenge your peers to a Spanish Lip Sync Battle!
The FLVS Spanish Club, Spanish Nuts at Play (SNAP) is sponsoring a creative virtual contest for students to practice their Spanish vocabulary skills.
All you have to do is post a video of yourself lip-syncing a song in Spanish that’s 30 seconds or less on social media! Your video might be chosen to be featured by Florida Virtual School or the SNAP club.
You don’t have to be a SNAP member (or even a student!) to participate and join the fun.
Outdoor Education Video Contest Winners
By Florida Virtual School on March 6th, 2015
Last month, FLVS held a contest asking students to create a video describing the benefits gained by taking Outdoor Education.
We received an overwhelming number of submissions during our final hours and everyone really stepped it up. A big thank you to all of our participants for taking the time to submit an entry! There were so many great submissions that it was hard to choose only three winners. We are very appreciative of our judges who helped us narrow it down!
And now it’s time to unveil the winners… Continue reading
Meet FLVS Students Ellie & Evie
By Guest Blogger on March 4th, 2015
With FLVS Shakespeare Fest just around the corner on April 13-14, it seems all of FLVS is a stage.
Our Student Spotlight this month features Evie and Ellie McPherson, two aspiring actresses who know the importance of learning their lines while keeping up with their academics.
The girls were bitten by the acting bug at an early age—Evie is a second-grade student and her sister Ellie is in third!
Ellie was cast in Seussical the Musical as Cindy Lou Who and Evie was intrigued after seeing her in rehearsals. It didn’t take long for Evie to get cast as the Young Kangaroo. That was all it took!

Global Mindset, Global Win: Model UN Dominates Conferences
By Guest Blogger on January 16th, 2015
The Florida Virtual School Model United Nations (MUN) team is in a theoretically outstanding position: the delegates communicate about parliamentary procedure and conference prep online, but met for the first time in person at conferences across Florida in 2014.
The delegates’ adaptability to new situations is tested upon meeting each other, and as friendships form, their diplomacy skills evidently flourish in daylong sessions.
FLVSMUN delegates attended two conferences in fall 2014: the KnightMUN at the University of Central Florida, and the Old City MUN (OCMUNC) in St. Augustine, Fla. Delegates participated in both assembly and crisis committees, and showcased a diverse array of talents at the conferences. Continue reading
Meet FLVS Student Samantha Morris
By Guest Blogger on December 5th, 2014
FLVS students are quite amazing, as we all know, but some of them absolutely excel in multiple areas. Samantha Morris, FLVS veteran, is a superstar journalist, scientist, researcher, and leader.
Looking at Samantha’s impressive resume will easily exhaust anyone. She has achieved awards for her academic talents, writing, and interest in science. Samantha was recently named an AP Scholar with Distinction by the College Board and was named a National Gold Key Winner by the Quill and Scroll International Journalism Honor Society for her opinion writing.
At FLVS, she was named “2013 Student of the Year” and “2014 Shining Star.” Continue reading
