Even though it seems early, now is the time to start thinking about next school year for many FLVS families and parents across the state. With enrollment for FLVS Full Time now open for the 2018-19 school year, I would like to share a bit about what our online school will offer our younger students for the upcoming school year.

Picture this: You log in to your live lesson. Instead of your usual teacher, you see that your teacher is Erin Hamlin, four-time Olympic medalist and the flag bearer for Team USA at the Pyeongchang 2018 Winter Olympics opening ceremony!
This is exactly what some of our Mega News Network student-journalists experienced on Thursday, February 22 when they participated in an online chat with Olympic athletes live from South Korea! What a great way to celebrate Digital Learning Day!
Celebrating Digital Learning at FLVS

Every year, FLVS faculty and staff attend In-Service Training Days in Orlando. It’s always a great opportunity to discuss educational advancements and explore new technologies. This year’s training was held in November and I truly think it’s one of the best times of the year for FLVS teachers.
Our annual In-Service Training Days give us a chance to “sharpen the saw,” collaborate, and network with other colleagues. (It’s kind of like a very productive high school reunion where you get to see your teammates face to face.) Once you get over how great your team leader looks with her new hair color, you can start brainstorming ways to make your live lessons more engaging next semester! Continue reading

I would like to recognize all of our outstanding CTE educators and students for making a difference in the world.

Project-Based Learning in Online Education

Project-based learning is a teaching method in which students gain knowledge and skills by working to investigate and respond to an authentic, engaging, and complex question.
The benchmarks of high-quality, project-based learning opportunities include a challenging problem, sustained inquiry, authenticity, student choice, and reflection or revision. In a project-based assessment opportunity, the goal is not just to bubble an answer choice. Instead, the student needs to process through a complex scenario and apply what was learned from the content to produce a unique sample demonstrating understanding. Continue reading
