Online Learning in 2021 and Beyond: Insights from FLVS Parents

Last year, we saw one of society’s most significant cultural shifts as people transitioned from in-person birthday parties to Zoom parties, everyday outings to at-home alternatives, and traditional classrooms to online learning. The COVID-19 pandemic changed everything about how people worked, lived, and learned.   

While the transition to a stay-at-home lifestyle and online learning presented challenges, it also provided many families with a new sense of safety and flexibility. And it’s not surprising that with the end of the 2020-21 school year approaching (the first full year of virtual learning for many), parents have a new take on online learning and how it fits into their families’ post-pandemic lives.

Advance to American Sign Language 2 Online with FLVS

Students can now enroll in American Sign Language (ASL) 2 with Florida Virtual School (FLVS)! 

Last year FLVS announced the highly anticipated American Sign Language 1 course as its newest addition to the selection of World Language courses for high school students. The success of ASL 1 sparked countless requests for American Sign Language 2 from FLVS students and parents. We are pleased to announce that students can continue their ASL journey in American Sign Language 2!

FLVS Students Host Second Online Game Jam

On September 26, 2020, FLVS students gathered virtually for an all-day “Game Jam” session. This was the second Game Jam held by Florida Virtual School, with more than 100 students in attendance. The student-led teams who participated created more than 30 original video games!

FLVS Student Receives Full Scholarship to Princeton

Of 3.2 million high school graduates in the United States, 2.1 million (66.2 percent) will enroll in college. Princeton University, a private Ivy League research university in New Jersey, offered admission to just 1,823 students in 2020. FLVS Full Time student Matthew Ciccone was not only accepted, but also received a full four-year scholarship to the elite school.
